Job Description
Austin Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a full-time Sr. Claims Examiner/Property Claims Field Representative. The position is responsible for investigating, evaluating, reserving, and settling assigned property and casualty claims. This position will provide quality claims handling and superior customer service on assigned claims, primarily Homeowner and Commercial property, and will negotiate disposition of claims with insureds, claimants, or legal representatives. Two to three days of the week, or as needed, will be spent in the field adjusting claims. Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position are to:
Investigate, evaluate, and settle assigned property claims
Negotiate disposition of claims with insureds, claimants, or their legal representatives.
Analyze policies, make coverage determinations, and determine extent of Company’s liability
Establish reserves within Company established guidelines
Work closely with authorities in the investigation of suspicious or disputed claims
Obtain and examine claim forms, medical reports, appraisals, statements from witnesses, and other records to determine insurance coverage
Analyze and report information gathered by investigations, and make file recommendations in accordance with claims handling best practices.
Negotiate claim settlements, and recommend litigation when settlement cannot be negotiated
Effect settlements within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal settlement authority
Provide prompt and exceptional customer service in accordance with the ACE guidelines
Travel assigned territory investigating, evaluating, and settling property and casualty claims as needed.
We are looking for an individual with the following:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, or equivalent work experience
Minimum of three years field property/casualty claims handling, including Homeowners and Commercial property claims
Strong business judgment, problem solving skills, analytical skills, and detail orientation are required
Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal, communication, negotiation and customer service skills are required
Must be a team player, possess initiative and drive, be a self-starter, and an outgoing individual
Must demonstrate professionalism in action, manner and appearance
Ability to multitask and to work independently in a fast-paced, structured or unstructured environment are required
Must have the ability to work flexible hours and be willing to travel (possibly overnight)
A valid driver’s license with clean driving record is required.
Xactimate estimating experience is necessary, as well as strong experience with Word and Excel
Must be bondable.
Imaging experience and an ability to work in a paperless environment is helpful
